King Kong

Once again, I went to the mall to watch King Kong. All was well until I saw the year-end sales in the shops. Instant change of plans. What did I get at the end of the day? No King Kong and a lot of items I did not need, and which weren't even on sale!

Coming back to dear King Kong which I SHALL see the next time, here is an ad for the movie from the 1930s.

The caption says it is the eighth wonder of the world. I love that about this ad, but of course I may be biased because Kimberley Locke's "8th World Wonder" is my favorite song. Other than that, what is it with King Kong filling up the whole sky? It doesn't reflect King Kong's real size at all... how is it supposed to climb the Empire Building if the building is the size of its arm? I'd also prefer a picture of King Kong with its mouth closed... I don't like seeing a poster where the beast looks like its going to eat me up.

Now compare that to the King Kong ad of our times. It's good that King Kong is on top of the Empire Building because that's how most people remember King Kong by. But that's the only positive thing I have to say about this. The choice of colors is the worst...and I hate the picture of the Sun. What's with the planes? It instantly reminds me of a movie about war. Maybe it would have been fine if they'd zoomed into King Kong so it looks like the planes are out to get him. He looks as still as a statue here! Ideally, they could have used the old ad, and placed King Kong (facing us) on the Empire building which stands tall among other buildings, with the planes flying around him - now that would be cool.

So, I have compared the two ads and am waiting anxiously to see the movie. I have seen the old one a long long time ago and it was the best. I expect the new one to be better because graphics play a big part in making the beasts come live as in Jurassic Park, and we have come a looong way in terms of special effects since the 1930s. Have you seen all the King Kong endorsements in the stores? I saw some keychains with stretchable arms. I remember giving some bananas to a monkey once when its hand touched mine... there was this cool and wet feeling to it - which was exactly the same as those stretchable arms... icky!
